WHAT THE HELL IS THIS WEBSITE?
by M. Blevins (mattergy)

You may be here unintentionally.  But people who come to this website regularly know exactly why they're here.

To learn things they never knew.

►THE NAME (DMCRR)

DMCRR is a mnemonic acronym (mnemonic meaning memory-triggering symbol and acronym meaning a word formed from the initial letters of a phrase or series of words.)

MLB, for example, is a widely accepted acronym for Major League Baseball in the USA.  It's also the name of the company that profits from every dollar you spend at the ballpark.  Most people just think it's a quaint abbreviation for "the big leagues".  But MLB is a real corporation, with real offices and real officers.

In contrast, DMCRR is just an idea.  An original idea, but just an idea.

DMCRR stands for "Does My Car Really Run?"

If it sounds absurd, then I've accomplished what I set out too do:  make you think.

If you own a car, you may be thinking something like:  "of course my car runs" or maybe "it runs, but not too well." or "my car's broken down, I need to get it repaired".

But DMCRR is a little deeper than that.

The only way to picture it is to imagine your car standing up on its rear tires and running down the street.  That's the kind of running I'm talking about.

Now ask yourself, "Does My Car Really Run?"  Does it really hop up on two tires and jog down the street?

Obviously, the idea is ridiculous.  But I think you'll remember the name of the site from now on.

By the way, I've tried to locate the most spam-free links to follow here at DMCRR, but wily web designers and corporate know-it-alls alike just can't seem to stop gumming up the works with every lame pop-up known to man.

The easiest way to eliminate this problem is by installing the Google Toolbar.  It's totally harmless software...nothing to be afraid of...in fact it can prevent a nasty virus-like popup from being loaded onto your computer behind your back.  Take my advice:  download and install the Google Toolbar before you go anywhere else.  You'll thank me for it later.

What was I talking about?

Oh yeah, "Does My Car Really Run?".

The corporate know-it-alls who do things like make websites with lame popups are the same guys who think it's a great idea to have long-ass web-domain-names like:

 YoureSoDumbYouProbablyCouldntRememberAnythingShorter.com (not a real website...yet.

The reasons people make up so many hard-to-type names for their websites are numerous:

1.  They didn't think of a shorter URL until after 1998--after all the really inventive (brief) domain names had been claimed)

2.  They don't have millions to spend on legal fees to strong-arm the really savvy people out of their five- or seven-letter domain name (it's been done)

3.  They're just too dumb for words.

It should be obvious to anyone with half-a-brain that having a visitor type 5 letters will always be better than having them type thirteen (with thirteen, there's 8 more mistakes to be made).  But people have weird superstitions about what is going to make their website popular, or easy-to-remember, or somehow more original than the four billion other sites out there.

Common sense should tell you that making people type some ungodly number of characters over and over again is only going to irritate them in the long-run.  Though it's an effective attention-getter, its not going to make you any friends out in cyberspace.

►CONFESSION

Now that you know (or think you know) what DMCRR means I'm going to pull a dirty trick  The real meaning of DMCRR is DMC_RocketRide.  That's the name of a map I created for the Deathmatch Classic (DMC)  mod of the world-famous Half-Life game-engine.

The reason I use "Does My Car Really Run" is because unless you play the game, DMC is a relatively unmemorable acronym for most people.

If this seems a little confusing, just read THE TRUE STORY OF DMC-ROCKETRIDE,COM (AKA DMCRR.COM) and it will all make sense.

In addition, I know people wonder why I don’t have a “CONTACT” link on this site.  The simple answer is that I have discovered through over 25 years of managing websites that people of questionable-character and -intelligence abuse this feature so often that it becomes a legal-problem.  I know people have various opinions of my work, but I assure you…I operate this site in good faith AND according to both US and international law…not as a sounding-board for the world.
